I get a lot of emails each day.  Most of them are garbage, some are advertisment, or perhaps spam.  It used to be fun to get emails  Folks would write personal messages, long or short.  It was fun.  Now it’s just spam or somebody wanting something from me.

Back in the day when the phone rang on the land line I’d answer every time.  It was fun.  Sometimes it was a friend or family member checking in, sometimes it was a sales call, or even wrong number.  Now with caller ID I have an excuse to not answer the phone at all.  Maybe I don’t recognize the number, or maybe I do and just don’t want to deal with whoever is on the other end of the phone.  There are certain caller id’s that will show up that make me feel a bit sick just by seeing the number.  Again, a lot of times they just want something from me.

Sometimes the door bell rings, if I’m expecting some friends or a friendly pizza delivery person, I’ll answer.  If I’m not expecting anyone I don’t answer at all.  It’s just someone wanting me to buy something.

Facebook can be fun.  People post a lot of stuff that they could keep to themselves though.  I like to keep things positive and fun, depressing things or anger rants aren’t fun.  Everyone is dealing with some sort of problem, big or small, it’s big to them.  Sometimes I get facebook messages, that’s fun but sometimes it’s not.

I like texts.  Not much spam, and in my experience it’s friends or family just wanting to talk.  they don’t want to sell me anything and they don’t need me to fix whatever problem they are having.  texting is still fun.   Let’s recap.  I don’t like talking on cell phones.  A lot of times when you are talking the other end cuts in and out.  I hate it.  I don’t like emails because my inbox gets cluttered with things people want from me.  Facebook is ok.  Texting is cool.  Let’s do that more.

Back in about 2001 I had an idea that utilized the just becoming popular water bottles you can buy everywhere these days.  You can see from my technical drawing below how it works but basically it was a cap that you buy that replaces the standard cap on the water bottles.  It was taller and contained what looks like a hot tea filter with flavoring inside.  When you put the cap on, and shaked the bottle your water turned into ice tea, lemonade, or whatever..

I didn’t really know how to get the technical drawing done properly or how to apply for a patent.  So I sat it on the idea for years.

A couple years ago I noticed drink companies coming out with little packets that work the same way.  A little more messy, I think my idea is much better.  At any rate I got the drawings done and hired a patent lawyer.  They did the needful patent search and found similar designs applied for back in 2005.  I was advised not to apply.  It’s a sad story, but a lesson learned.   If you have an idea GO FOR IT NOW!  I have a new idea and once I figured out the details I will be applying for a patent in 2012.  Every time I am at the market and see the crystal light packets I think of what could have been.  Never again!    Have a wonderful 2012 everyone!
